The Philippine setting is seen in the opening scene of episode 1, where King Geum Wa (Anslem Ruiz) and his wife Yang-no (Sherlyn Reyes) marvel at the country's many islands. The cast is rounded out by actors who speak fluent Tagalog, delivering the Tagalog-dubbed dialogue with confidence. The main roles are played by Solenn Heussaff as Ja-hye, the princess of Buyeo whose marriage to Jumong will unite two kingdoms, and Christian Bables as Jumong, the man who will rule over one of them. Other Philippine "Jumong" characters include Gregorio Pagtalunan Jr. as the late King Geum Wa’s brother, who is jealous of his brother’s success and determined to dethrone him. Ana Abad Santos plays the role of Ja-hye's handmaiden Shiwoo, whose passion for Jumong leaves her torn between loyalty to her princess and love for a fugitive. Eddie Garcia plays a Buyeo lord who acts as a father figure to Jumong after his own father is murdered by Dongmyeong.
